Kindergarten Readiness
Kindergarten Readiness creates a positive and encouraging learning environment. The morning circle time is a teaching/review time and is modified throughout the year to correspond to the teaching objectives. Each morning during circle time the students practice patterns, numbers, colors, shapes, graphing, days of the week, and the months of the year. The weather is discussed each day by graphing the information and predicting tomorrow’s weather. Other activities include the mystery bucket and letter of the week activities.

The Reading program includes pre-reading skills to reinforce the letters and sounds being taught. Students focus on vowels and consonants throughout the first semester of school. Forming/writing letters is an integral piece to the pre-reading skills taught. Blends are introduced to begin forming words. During the second semester, reading groups begin to reinforce skills and challenge students to initiate reading on their own.

The Math program includes number recognition, ordering, one-to-one correspondence, sequencing, finding the missing numbers, patterns, graphs, and oral counting from 1 to 100. The teacher introduces skip counting by 2’s , 5’s, and 10’s. Math manipulatives are used to make math come alive.

The Bible program includes a daily bible study. We begin each day with a Praise Time to celebrate God through songs and a bible lesson. We work on applications throughout the week. We meet every Wednesday morning during chapel to praise God with all students at NTCA.

The Science/Social Studies program is based on curriculum themes. Some of the social studies themes include community helpers, citizenship, cultural differences (holidays), fairy tales, and nursery rhymes. In Science, the focus is on the different seasons, our 5 senses, the human body, safety, nutrition, animals, sink-or-float, rocks, plants, predicting outcomes, and living vs. nonliving.

Center time is an integral part of the program. Center time is a daily activity used to reinforce skills taught and to encourage social interaction. Centers work on a rotation system so every child is able to participate. The centers involve “hands-on” opportunities for our students.

The Kindergarten Readiness weekly schedule includes Art, Music, Physical Education, Health, Spanish, Library and Computer.
