The purpose of the North Texas Christian Academy Preschool Program is to provide the youngest learners a safe,
positive learning environment, where they can experience success in a variety of learning activities and develop
a sound foundation for future learning.
The curriculum chosen for the preschool program is "We Care", by Bertie W. Kingore and Glenda M. Higbee.
This curriculum embodies the preschool purpose and provides the children with the experiential learning
opportunities that are so valuable. The Core Beliefs of this curriculum are:
- The process is more important than the product. The ultimate value of the activity is the experience rather than the quality of what the child produces.
- Children learn by doing.
- Encourage creativity in each child.
- Activities are also opportunities to help each child develop responsibility.
Children begin each day with Circle Time. Circle Time is a very important part of a preschooler’s day.
This time with the teacher sets the tone for the day and is a time of practice and review. Children are
introduced to colors, shapes, numbers and letters. Children hear stories and learn finger plays, rhymes and
songs. The weather is discussed daily and predictions are made. Circle Time is followed by a variety of
learning activities including a daily Bible lesson, phonics, numbers, cooking, centers, recess, art and music.
All of these activities are centered on weekly and monthly themes, and engage the children in active learning.
Once a week, all preschoolers gather for Chapel. This is a special time to praise God together.
The school day begins at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 2:00 p.m.
Field Trips: Preschoolers participate in one field trip each fall. It is a day of family fun at the Pumpkin
Patch! Parents are asked to join their preschooler in feeding the animals, picking the pumpkins, riding the
hayride and eating a picnic lunch. It is a great day to spend with other preschool friends!
Christmas Programs: In December, preschoolers join the older students and participate in the annual Christmas
Program. The littlest children have a time to shine and help get everyone in the Spirit of Christmas.
Open House: Each spring, NTCA holds an Open House to showcase the students and school. Each classroom displays
the students’ best work to share with visitors. Visitors are also treated to a short musical program and
refreshments.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor
others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not
delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always
perseveres. Love never fails. (1 Corinthians 13:4-8)
NTCA follows the "Love and Logic" discipline program. Each classroom has a clear, simple rule for behavior,
such as, “Treat others the way you would like to be treated.” (Luke 6:31) Consequences for misbehavior are
age appropriate time out and/or redirection to another activity. These consequences are natural and fit the
misbehavior. Discipline is an act of love for the children. Discipline is never a result of anger.
Our approach is logical and loving at all times.
